Drip Irrigation For Bushes, Landscaping, And Flowerbeds

These DIG 6 outlet drip emitters, also called a manifold, are mounted on a half-inch shrub stick or riser. They split the flow of water into 6 different directions, turning a single riser into a mini drip system. I’m Dwayne Smith your Sprinkler Warehouse Product Specialist. Let’s talk about drip manifolds.

These manifolds are perfect for watering individual shrubs, roses, or trees, and because they are drip irrigation they use 50 to 70 percent less water than a conventional sprinkler system. By watering only the root zone area of the plant, they help eliminate problems with pests, weeds water evaporation and runoff, and plant disease caused by overwatering.

These 6-outlet emitters are pressure compensating and each outlet delivers up to 6 gallons per hour of water flow. There are two versions of this manifold. The 06-604 which has barbs that point down. And the 06-504 has 90-degree barbs that point out, which is handy if you’re mounting this really close to the ground. These also swivel which are great for helping to point your emitter tubing in the direction that you want it to go.

6-Outlet Drip Manifold With Micro Tubing

Quarter-inch micro tubing connects to each of these barbs. The micro tubing carries water to the root zone of your plants. Depending on the size of the planting one outlet may suffice for a small dense grouping. Or you may use one outlet per plant. For trees or large shrubs, you may need to use several outlets.

Manifolds can be installed above ground or you can place them underground inside a small valve box. To retrofit a sprinkler to a manifold. Unscrew the nozzle from the riser. Flush the lines for just a few seconds. Screw the manifold onto the riser. Run your micro tubing. Run your micro tubing from the manifold to your plants. Secure the tubing with stakes.

Incorporate A Diffusion Cap To Prevent Erosion

It’s a good idea to use a bug cap, also called a diffusion cap, on the end of the tubing. It helps to prevent erosion and prevents bugs from making their home in your tubes. If you find that the flow rate is too high for a particular outlet you can add a drip emitter that has a more appropriate flow rate for your plan. Any brand of the barbed emitter will. There are lots of emitters to choose from on our button drip emitters page.
