Trying To Decide Between Sprays And Rotors?

Answers to the following questions will help guide you in your choice of whether to use sprays or rotary nozzles in your sprinkler system.

Q: Is your static water pressure less than 45 pounds per square inch?

A: If it is, you should consider using sprays or rotary nozzles.

Q: Is the area of intended use less than 16 feet wide?

A: If it is, then you should consider sprays or short radius rotary nozzles.

Q: Is the zone of intended irrigation between 16 and 25 feet wide?

A: Rotary nozzles are an excellent choice for watering this mid-sized station.

Q: Is the area you want to irrigate larger than 25 feet by 30 feet in dimension?

A: If a zone in your irrigation system is larger than about 25 feet, standard rotors are likely the best solution.

Q: Is the edge of the area you want to water curved?

A: Curves that are less than a 20-foot radius are difficult for rotors to provide proper water coverage without producing overspray. This may be an issue if the area beyond the edge is something that shouldn’t get watered. Like a sidewalk, patio, driveway, road, or structure. Overspray may also violate local regulations or laws in some communities. If your boundaries have curves, consider using smaller rotary nozzles or spray-type sprinklers to prevent overspray.
