The Hunter I-20-06 rotor with check valve is a premium six-inch rotor from Hunter. We’re going to discuss a few of the upgraded features of this remarkable rotor and show you how to change out a nozzle and make some adjustments. I’m Dwayne Smith, your Sprinkler Warehouse Product Specialist. Let’s get started.
Features Of The Hunter I-20-06 Rotor With Check Valve And How To Use It
The I20 is Hunter’s top-of-the-line rotor, and it’s loaded with features. This is the six-inch version.
- One of the features that separate the I-20 line from standard rotors is the flow stop function, which means you can turn off this sprinkler at the head. It allows you to change a nozzle without having to turn off your system. It’s also handy when you’re working on nearby rotors and you don’t want to get wet.
- It has a non-strippable drive so those internal gears will keep working perfectly for a long long time.
- The I-20 also has automatic arc return so that if the turret is physically cranked past its setting, it returns to the setting automatically, which keeps you from having to go reset the pattern and means less water wasted.
- Another upgraded feature is it has full and part circle patterns in one rotor. That is when you set the rotor to turn 360 degrees so it will go around in a continuous circle. The arc is adjustable from 50 to 360 degrees.
- The I-20 series comes with a check valve installed. Check valves to prevent low head drainage. When there’s a large elevation difference within a zone, once the system shuts off, water within the pipes of that zone often leaks out through the lowest sprinkler heads. Check valves to keep water in the pipes, which prevents puddles and erosion from happening at the head. The check valve on an I-20 rotor holds back up to 10 feet of elevation difference.
- As I mentioned before, this is a six-inch rotor, which means it pops up six inches above the soil. It has a three-quarter-inch inlet which is pretty standard for residential rotors.
- It has a watering distance of 17 to 46 feet. The range will depend on which nozzle you’ve chosen to install and how the adjustment screw is set. This rotor comes with this set of nozzles. If these don’t cover your needs, there are additional nozzle choices also available.
Adjustments You Can Make On A Hunter I-20-06 Rotor With Check Valve
- Looking at the top of the rotor, this is where you set your range adjustment screw. This screw holds the nozzle in place. You can use a Hunter rotor tool like this one or a small flathead screwdriver.
- Over here is the lifting socket. Use the plastic end of the Hunter rotor tool for that.
- This is the arc adjustment socket. Once again, use the plastic end of the rotor tool for that.
- Right in the center is the flow-stop socket.
How To Change Out The Nozzle Of A Hunter I-20-06 Rotor With Check Valve
Here we have an I-20-06 that’s been installed. We’ll begin by changing out a nozzle.
- You could use the pull-up slot to pull up the riser, but an easier way is to turn on the water and use the flow shut-off function. Use the plastic end of the rotor tool in the hole in the very center of the top, then twist clockwise. The riser stays up, making it a whole lot easier to work on.
- Use the metal end of the Hunter rotor tool to back out the range adjustment screw, which is securing the nozzle in place.
- Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to pull out the nozzle, or you could pry it out with a small flat head screwdriver.
- Insert the new nozzle into the hole at a slight downward angle.
- Screw the range adjustment screw back in to hold the nozzle in place. Don’t try to tighten the screw; just get it in front of the nozzle.
- Turn the water back on using the flow stop function.
- Use the range adjustment screw to adjust your watering distance. You want the spray from this rotor to reach the next rotor over.
- Let’s adjust the arc, which is also called the pattern. You can turn the top of the rotor back and forth like this to determine where the arc is set.
- To change the arc, insert the plastic end of the rotor tool into the arc adjustment socket, turning it clockwise to increase and counterclockwise to decrease.
